This service is offered for literary and popular fiction with a particular interest in poetry, literary fiction, literary non-fiction, speculative fiction, religious drama, medical drama, romance and young adult. It is not a service for children’s literature, war epics, erotica, crime novels, thrillers, or short stories.
If you think you would like me to assess your manuscript, first consider whether you are ready to hear criticism of your work. The criticism, while professional and carefully considered, also includes a degree of subjective analysis because the assessor can be considered a test audience of your material. If you are not ready to hear criticism of your work, then this service is not for you. Fees will not be reimbursed because the client does not like the criticism.
Manuscript assessment up to 50,000 words – Fee: $250.00
Manuscript assessment up to 80,000 words – Fee: $350.00
Each additional 10,000 words – Fee: $15.00
The fee covers a written assessment report on the manuscript and two-page synopsis. Fees are payable by cheque, money order or cash payment. A deposit of $100 is required when the manuscript is submitted and the remainder is due on completion of the report.
The written report will be a minimum of 4000w and will provide general comments plus feedback on the title, point of view, plot development, characterisation, setting, and specific examples of where the writing could be reworked. While some feedback will also be given on presentation, grammar and spelling, this is not an editing service. Suggestions may also be made regarding professional development for the author. The written report will be provided within six weeks of the material being received for assessment.
